Travel Advice

(ACCRIDITED YELLOW FEVER VACCINE MEDICAL CENTRE)

Between 3.5 and 4.5 million Australians embark on overseas travel annually. Although many of these trips are to countries where health risks exist the majority of Australians travelling overseas do not seek pre-travel health advice and every year Australian travellers become ill or even die while travelling abroad. Many of the infectious diseases that cause some of this morbidity and mortality are preventable through vaccination.8

The doctors at Surfers Day & Night Medical Centre will be able to advise you on appropriate vaccinations and travel precautions, relative to your destination and the season in which you are travelling.

The Australian Governments National Health and Medical Research Council recommends all travellers be vaccinated against:9

       Tetanus

       Whooping cough

       Mumps

       Rubella

       Measles

       Chicken pox

       Diphtheria

       Polio

Other vaccinations that may be recommended or are legally required include:

       Influenza

       Pneumonia

       Meningococcal C

       Hepatitis B

       Hepatitis A

       Cervical Cancer

       Typhoid

       Meningococcal meningitis

       Tuberculosis

       Rabies

       Japanese encephalitis

       Tick-borne encephalitis

       Yellow Fever
There are also infectious diseases such as schistosomiasis, malaria and leptospirosis for which no vaccine has been introduced into clinical practice. Your doctor will be able to advise you on diseases common to your area of travel and prevention strategies.

We encourage you to book your appointment for vaccination with us at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to your departure date as vaccines take time to become effective within your body and may require multiple treatments over a period of weeks.
